PantryScore uses a transparent three-pillar model: 75% nutritional quality (compared against WHO and AHA daily-intake guidelines, calibrated against Nutri-Score), 20% additive load (NOVA processing classification and additive risk tiers), and 5% ingredient quality. The score is on a 0–100 scale. A fresh apple scores in the 90s, a soda scores in the teens.
PantryScore needs at minimum calories, carbohydrates, fat, and sugar from the product's nutrition database entry to produce a meaningful score. When those are missing from the public database, we show "Insufficient data" rather than guess.
The barcode database is sourced from Open Food Facts, a community-maintained database. If a product isn't found, you can add it directly at world.openfoodfacts.org or its mobile app. New entries become available in PantryScore within a few hours.
Yes. Your scan history and favorites are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us. See our Privacy Policy for details.
PantryScore distinguishes added sugar from naturally-occurring fruit sugar. Whole-fruit products that contain no added sweeteners are scored equivalently to fresh fruit, regardless of how concentrated the natural sugar is by mass. A bar made of "Apples, Strawberries" with no added sugar is treated as fruit, not as candy.
These products are too often adulterated to score honestly from a nutrition label alone. PantryScore shows an authenticity guidance notice instead of a score for these categories. We're working on an authenticity verification feature for a future release.
Tap the feedback button inside the app, or email support@fluidandsolidsolution.io with the product name and barcode. We review every report and update the scoring model when warranted.
